November is Family Engagement Month!

Click here to access the Georgia Department of Education's webpage with links to the State School Superintendent's Thank You Letter to Parents, the governor's proclamation, and much more. Please contact Ms. Ledford, Parent Involvement Coordinator, at 706-866-1040 if you are interested in volunteering at school or for other ways to be involved in your child's education.

Parents / Guardians:

The 2017-2018 Family-School Grade Level Compacts were finalized at the Parent Advisory Council on September 19, 2017.  These compacts outline how parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement.  Copies have been sent home with your child, along with a Signature Sheet.  Please sign and date the Signature Page and send it to your child's homeroom teacher by October 27th.  Keep the compact as a reminder of your commitment.  Copies of the compact are also available on the website at the School Publications tab under "Title I Information".

Parents:  

In order to develop a partnership between parents, students, and Lakeview Middle School, we would like to offer workshops that are interesting to and needed by parents.  Please fill out the 2017 LMS Title I Fall Parent Interest Survey and return to your child's homeroom teacher by Friday, September 15, 2017.  All students who return a fall survey (with their name on it) by September 15th will receive a "Warrior One" from Ms. Ledford.

2017 Annual Parent Involvement Survey for Georgia Families Raising a Student with a Disability

In order for all students to graduate prepared to achieve a lifetime of success, families need to be an important part of the school team.  It is critical that the GaDOE assist local school systems in partnering with families to raise the achievement rate for students with disabilities.  Completing this survey will assist in achieving this goal.  

If you are a parent or guardian of a student with a disability, please complete the survey online at http://www.gadoe.org/ci_exceptional.aspx

 

Parents and Guardians:

Please plan to attend the LMS Parent Advisory Council on Thursday, May 4th at 9:00 a.m.  At this meeting we will develop, discuss, revise, and agree upon the Lakeview Middle School Parent and Family Engagement Policy and discuss results of the Title I Annual Evaluation (Spring Survey).  We also need your input for the Schoolwide Plan for the 2017-2018 school year.  All parents are welcome to participate in this important decision-making meeting.  Please contact Zina Ledford, Parent Involvement Coordinator, at zledford.lms@catoosa.k12.ga.us or (706) 866-1040 by Friday, April 21st if you plan to attend.  If transportation assistance is needed, please contact Catoosa Trans-aid at (706) 937-8627.

Come join us on Thursday, May 11th from 8:30-10:00 a.m. at the Catoosa County Learning Center for the Title I Parent and Family Engagement District Advisory Council.  We will distribute, revise, and approve the Catoosa County Parent and Family Engagement Policy for the 2017-2018 school year.  Please contact Zina Ledford, Parent Involvement Coordinator, at zledford.lms@catoosa.k12.ga.us or (706) 866-1040 by April 17th if you would like to attend.

Please take a few moments to complete the Title I Spring Survey and return to your child’s homeroom teacher by March 9th.  Students who return their survey by that date will be eligible to participate in free time during their Connections period on March 30th.  (If the survey is returned by March 3rd, students will also receive a piece of candy.)  Surveys will be sent home with students the week of February 20th and can be found in the "Forms" section above.  If you have questions, please contact Zina Ledford at zledford.LMS@catoosa.k12.ga.us or (706) 866-1040.

Georgia Milestones Testing is scheduled for April 24th - April 28th. If you were unable to attend the LMS Georgia Milestones Night, please click on the "News" link above for sample test questions and other parent information.  For online test practice, go to www.gaexperienceonline.com.  

 

Parents/Guardians:

The Catoosa County Family Collaborative is offering free Positive Parenting Classes - which will focus on building Healthy, Caring, and Prescription Drug/Alcohol Problem-free Families. Classes will be on Thursdays from 5:30-8:00pm beginning on January 26th and ending on March 9th at the Young America Building (188 Karen Drive, Ringgold, GA).  Supper and child care will be provided. In this letter, Mr. Woods talks about the importance of parental and family engagement in their children's education. In November, Georgia celebrates Family Engagement Month. You can download brochures, school transitional materials, and other resources on the Information for Parents webpage at http://gadoe.org/parent-information

The 2016-2017 LMS Family-School Compacts have been distributed to students.  Parents and students should review the compact and then sign and date the Signature Sheet.  Keep the compact but return the Signature Sheet to your homeroom teacher.

Parents are our partners! Study after study has shown that parent engagement is the number one factor in student academic success. Go to the Georgia Department of Education website to take advantage of the newsletters, videos, brochures, and countless other available resources. This information is designed to help parents become better engaged in their child's education and future!

 

 

Parents:  Does your child struggle with completing homework? Do you argue about curfew?  Are you having trouble connecting with your stepchild?  Are chores not getting completed?  If so, you can increase your parenting skills with the video based lessons of The Online Parenting System.  The class is free at www.capiops.com.  For more information, please call (423) 309-3611.  Receive a $30 Walmart gift card at completion!  Enter for a $25 gift card drawing halfway through the course.

Parents:  If you need an extra resource to help your child with math homework, go to the News Tab on the Parent Volunteer Section of this website to find the news article titled: Illustrated Mathematics Dictionary.  Open the document and click on the link to access the MathisFun.com website that gives easy-to-understand definitions, with illustrations and links to further reading.

November is Parent Engagement Month and Georgia's Parent Engagement Program has developed a calendar with daily activities to keep parents engaged with their students throughout the month.  The calendar has a wide range of activities for Elementary, Middle, and High School students.  Please go to the "News" link on this page and look for Parent Engagement Month - November 2015 Calendar.
